Teaching Artist

Richmond Ballet, in its 26th year, seeks Teaching Artists for our Minds In Motion satellite programs in both Martinsville and Roanoke, Virginia. Minds in Motion is a year-long program that teaches fourth-grade students discipline, dedication and self-awareness by leading them through a series of choreographic movements which must be memorized and expanded upon in each class session. Not a ballet class, this program teaches students the benefits of applying themselves to a task involving both mental and physical challenges. Applicant should have prior teaching and professional performance experience and enjoy working with children.  Applicant will be trained in the Minds In Motion pedagogy. Stitcher/Dresser

Richmond Ballet is seeking a Stitcher/Dresser for the 2010-2011 season. This hourly position will work with the Costume Shop Manager and Wardrobe Manager to assist in pre-production preparation and on show calls. Stitcher duties will include, but are not limited to stitching, painting, dying, fabrics, trims and shoes, some craft work, maintaining all tools and machinery and maintaining a clean and orderly work environment. Dresser duties will include preparations for dress rehearsals and performances, dressing shows, working with dancers, simple repairs and alterations, attending all dress rehearsals and performances and some tour performances, laundry and preparation for post-production storage.

This position requires knowledge in dying and painting textiles, machine and hand stitching Working with industrial sewing machines is a plus, but not required. We will provide training on all machines and equipment used in the shop. General backstage knowledge is needed, but is not vital. A positive attitude and sense of humor is a must. This position does require some physical labor, standing for long periods of time, and flexibility in scheduling, including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
