From the Artistic Director
Dance is the expression of the human spirit through movement. It is the instinctive language of our hearts and minds, a common language spoken in harmony by the body and soul, and in varying accents and dialects. We here at Richmond Ballet believe that no other form of that language more thoroughly expresses the thoughts and emotions shared by all people than ballet. What other form of dance has crossed more national and cultural boundaries than ballet, or stayed more in step with changing times?
Richmond Ballet continues to break boundaries, from commissioning new works by choreographers from around the world to providing inspirational outreach programs to the community all while maintaining the highest artistic and organizational integrity. The 2012-13 season is our 29th as a professional company, and we have surpassed expectations, moving far beyond the vision Richmond dance enthusiasts shared when the company was founded in 1984. We have come a long way, but I also believe we have never had more potential. Our company received international recognition when we performed at the Royal Opera House in London in June, but we are thrilled to return to Richmond, our home. We invite you to join us this season as we continue to "awaken and uplift the human spirit, both for audiences and artists."
