Join us in New York as Richmond Ballet returns
to
The Joyce Theater April 6-11, 2010.

In the spring of 2010, Richmond Ballet will be making its fourth New York appearance in six years.  The week of April 6-11 will find the Ballet at Manhattan’s Joyce Theater, where it will present on two programs, six Richmond Ballet-commissioned works by a slate of international choreographers. The Joyce Theater is New York’s premiere venue for dance, and its audiences are accustomed to seeing the very best.

“We have something truly unique to show,” says Artistic Director Stoner Winslett.  “Our dancers, many of whom were trained at the School of Richmond Ballet, excel in the diverse repertory that has been created especially for them by today’s most talented choreographers. The result for the audience is an experience that should be felt throughout the field.”

PROGRAM A:                                                         PROGRAM B:
Ancient Airs and Dances (Stoner Winslett)            Misa Criolla (William Soleau)
To Familiar Spaces in Dream (Jessica Lang)        Violin (Val Caniparoli)
Voyages (Mauricio Wainrot)                                  Vestiges (Colin Connor)

The Company will present six commissioned works that showcase the company’s energy, vitality and extraordinary range. Artistic Director Stoner Winslett’s romantic Ancient Airs and Dances gives way to the earthy sensuality of Mauricio Wainrot’s Voyages and the spare geometry of Jessica Lang’s To Familiar Spaces in Dream. Val Caniparoli’s neoclassical Violin, Colin Connor’s poignant Vestiges and William Soleau’s uplifting Misa Criolla round out this diverse offering of Manhattan premieres.

Richmond Ballet made its debut at The Joyce in 2005 and returned in 2007 to perform Carmina Burana in John Butler: An American Master, a collaborative effort that included performances by Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater, Ballet NY and guest artist Desmond Richardson. In 2008, Richmond Ballet was invited by the Brooklyn Center for the Performing Arts to perform an evening of Jessica Lang’s works.  All three productions were well-received by both critics and audiences.
