Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, seeks an Assistant Master Electrician to join a dynamic and diverse team of arts professionals at one of the country’s most admired and accomplished regional ballet companies.
The Assistant Master Electrician works directly with the Lighting Supervisor, Master Electrician, in the planning and execution of electrical projects related to scenery, props, crafts, and stage lighting. The Assistant Master Electrician assists in implementing lighting designs by overseeing the preparation, hanging, connection and focusing of stage lighting fixtures. The AME is also responsible for management of inventory, maintenance of equipment and the work delegation of safe work standards and quality controls for the department.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Reads, interprets and executes stage lighting plots and various paperwork including hook-ups and instrument schedules;
• Troubleshoots networking of various lighting equipment;
• Handles programming lighting consoles such as ETC Ion;
• Works closely with lighting designers and assists through the tech process;
• Cleans and maintains instruments, equipment and all work areas;
• Reads and interprets various scenic drawings such as Ground Plan, Section Design Plates, and Shop drawings;
• Writes electrical elements on scenery, props and costumes;
• Responsible for hanging, circulating and focusing lighting instruments;
• Runs theatrical productions as member of deck crew, light board operator and/ or follow spot operator;
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the job classification.
REQUIRED SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND ABILITIES:
• An approachable and broad minded communication style with excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills
• Strong analytical, problem-solving skills with ability to prioritize tasks
• Knowledge of basic lighting design concepts
• Attention to detail with strong self-directed electrical skills
• Comfortable with heights, working in bucket and scissor lifts
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
• High School Diploma / Electrician Trade School
• 2+ years of experience working in an Assistant Master Electrician or similar role
