The Costume Shop Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the costume shop, including design integration, construction, fitting, repairing, cleaning, storing, and cataloging of costumes. Responsibilities include managing all costume shop staff as they support aspects of wardrobe and theatrical costuming during performances, including presentations by the professional company, educational, outreach, and marketing services.
Job Responsibilities:
• Assigns, trains and oversees staff in their responsibilities of patterning, cutting, and construction of costumes from beginning to end;
• Maintains Richmond Ballet’s owned costume inventory and shop; including costume cleaning, repair work, shoe inventory, costume shop supplies, equipment, and fabric inventory;
• Identifies alterations, repairs, and supplemental costumes for each performance;
• Creates, prepares, and monitors wardrobe department budget;
• Processes all invoices for costume shop purchases;
• Supervises and coordinates shoe distribution and dying for the professional company and education programs;
• Oversees and executes special projects such as dying, fabric painting, and millinery;
• Works directly with choreographers and visiting costume designers to oversee the completion of all costume elements for performances;
• Oversees rental pricing, rental contracts (with the Production Director) and shipping;
• Researches and plans new builds for established ballet costumes;
• Delivers costumes for various photo shoots and related marketing events;
Education/ Experience:
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred in Arts/ Theater with focus on costume and design
• 3+ years previous costume and management experience
Salary Range: $45,000 – $55,000
