Richmond Ballet’s acclaimed community engagement program, Minds In Motion, is seeking a qualified dance professional for a full-time teaching artist position for the 2023-2024 season in the Richmond area. Minds In Motion is an inclusive program that brings dance to all fourth-grade students in 16 participating Richmond area elementary schools during the school day. The Minds In Motion methodology has been crafted over the last two and a half decades and is based on our mission to awaken and uplift the spirit of students through the power of dance whereby the methodology of MIM emphasizes self-discipline, self-awareness, excellence, and teamwork and students are prepared for a culminating performance.  We also provide after-school programs at School of Richmond Ballet additional classes to give advanced and accelerated learners opportunities to continue training in dance and other forms such as ballet, modern, theater dance, and choreography.

Students attend weekly 45-minute classes beginning in September and culminating with a professionally produced performance that is shared by all students at the end of April. Teaching artists should have a strong background in dance, performance, and choreography, as well as a desire to connect and engage with elementary students in a positive and encouraging group atmosphere. They should be dependable, self-motivative, and positive in a team environment.

Applicants should submit a cover letter that includes what inspires them about sharing dance with students and will also need to be available for training in the methodology and curriculum in the summer or early fall of 2023. The position is seasonal contract running from the last week in August through the first week in May. Some summer work may also be available. During the school year, candidates will need to be willing to work school days in which the hours are varied, usually between 7:45am until 3:30 during school days, and occasionally for after-school programs from 4:00-6:30.  This is a salaried position that includes benefits.
