Senior Human Resources Generalist

Richmond Ballet, The State Ballet of Virginia, is looking for their new Senior Human Resources Generalist to join the team. The Senior Human Resources Generalist will join a dynamic company celebrating its 37th year as one of the country’s most admired and accomplished regional ballet companies.

The Sr. HR Generalist is responsible for managing the Ballet’s daily HR functions including recruiting, onboarding, benefits and leave administration along with regulatory reporting, compliance and employee training and engagement.

This is an HR department of one, and will provide an exciting opportunity to develop, administer, and oversee all areas of Human Resources. This position provides great flexibility with opportunity for hybrid work and a flexible schedule option. This position reports to the Managing Director of the Ballet.

Duties/Responsibilities:

The Sr. HR Generalist partners with the leadership team to understand and execute the organization’s human resource needs in the following areas:

Talent Management

• Coordinates sourcing and recruitment of top talent, responsible for entire process from job posting, background checks to offer extension and first day orientation
• Continue to expand onboarding, employee recognition and retention programs
• Primary resource for employment-related inquiries from applicants, employees, and supervisors, referring complex and/or sensitive matters to the appropriate staff
• Manages employee disciplinary meetings, terminations, and investigations, providing support to management and employees as needed
• Utilize exit interview process to collect appropriate retention data to enhance employee experience

Total Rewards

• Oversees benefits including medical, dental vision, life/disability, and retirement plan
• Administer leave of absences, ensuring tracking of benefits, pay and time off are accurate
• Assist team in performance reviews, recognition; recommending training and development needs for individual or organization wide
• Review bi-weekly Ballet payroll for correct entry into payroll system. Review all timesheets for reasonableness and appropriate approval, working closely with finance to ensure accurate benefit administration, contribution and payroll taxes are reported
• Assist with annual benefits open enrollment process including coordination with vendors, broker and internal staff, communication, and enrollment
• Partner with Finance to review raise and/or bonus calculations in HRIS

Compliance

• Oversee and maintain practices to support compliance with all state and federal and regulations, including staying current on regulatory changes with EEOC, ADA, FMLA, ACA, VA DOLI, OSHA, etc.
• Review unemployment claims and contest when appropriate
• Monitor Worker’s Comp claims, review annual audits for errors, and submit competitive insurance bids yearly to try to keep insurance cost under control
• Maintains knowledge of HR trends, best practices, regulatory changes, and new technologies in human resources, talent management, and employment law
• Performs other duties as assigned

• Proficiency with or the ability to quickly learn the organization’s HRIS and talent management systems

Education and Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field required
• 3-5 years of human resource management experience preferred
• Working knowledge of a variety of HR laws, concepts, practices, and procedures
• HR Certification a plus

Physical Requirements:

• Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
• Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times
