Richmond Ballet, the State Ballet of Virginia, seeks a Technical Director to join a dynamic and diverse team of arts professionals at one of the country’s most admired and accomplished regional ballet companies.
The Technical Director is responsible for supervising, contributing and providing materials to the building of theatrical scenery. Transporting set pieces from shops to theatre venues and assembling scenery, while overseeing the work of the scenic crews during rehearsals and performances. Along with maintaining the shop’s equipment and supplies. The Technical Director works closely with directors and designers to reach artistic goals within allotted resources.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Collaborate with artistic and production leaders to establish appropriate production expectations;
• Coordinate schedules so that lighting, sound, set, and other crews have time to complete projects;
• Ensure the directors and designers’ visions are carried out safely and professionally;
• Directly supervise production technicians, local crew, and interns;
• Lead the setup and break-down of all performances;
• Assess technical challenges and develop proactive solutions;
• Oversee loading and operation of all freight shipping;
• Monitor production operations to ensure company standards;
• Create and strengthen business relationships with venues, supplies, and labor leadership;
• Oversee construction of scenic carpentry and new props;
• Maintain warehouse, including tools and equipment;
• Supervise set up and breakdown of studio theater riser system, including rigging;
• Train individuals on safe operation of tools and ensure safe working conditions.
EDUCATION/EMPLOYMENT:
• High School Diploma;
• 2+ years of dance or theater production experience, preferably in a non-profit organization;
• Computer proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and related software.
