Mourning Light by Gerard Ebitz is a beautiful, lyrical ballet set to the haunting music of Johann Johansson. Ebitz was a founding member of Miami City Ballet, principal dancer with Pacific Northwest Ballet, and danced in New York City Ballet under the legendary George Balanchine.

Invitation to Ballet Class by Richmond Ballet Artistic Associate and Chairman of the Faculty Judy Jacob is set to Carl Maria von Weber’s famous “Invitation to the Dance.” Originally choreographed in 2007, this is an entire ballet class, condensed into nine minutes, which showcases the Trainees’ poise and expertise in their ballet technique.

Concerto Con Brio, choreographed by the late Edward Stierle, is being presented for the first time since it premiered in 1989. Originally choreographed for senior students at the North Carolina School of the Arts, Concerto Con Brio is a lively, joyous tour-de-force that features the talent of the women, giving them the opportunity to dance with the same vigor and energy as the men. Richmond Ballet faculty member Deanna Seay was a member of the original cast and has restaged this work for the Trainees.

Contemporary new works by Starrene Foster, Artistic Director of Starr Foster Dance and SRB faculty member, and RB Trainee Gianna DeMassio round out this program which highlights the talent and versatility of the Richmond Ballet Trainees.
