Elise Gaubatz began her study of dance at age four in Colorado. She received training from Bolshoi Ballet and the Washington School of Ballet before joining Richmond Ballet in 2014 as a trainee. Following her traineeship, she performed for three years with Richmond Ballet II, and found her passion for dance education through the lecture demonstration program. She graduated from Arizona State University with a BS in Urban Planning in May 2020. Elise is excited to support the Minds In Motion team as a Teaching Artist.
What is your favorite aspect of working at Richmond Ballet?
I love the family that is Richmond Ballet. The people in the organization all have a passion for what they do which I believe creates a drive to achieve something greater than one single person can achieve. I love feeling like I am a part of a bigger mission and being surrounded by others with the same mission in mind.
What is your favorite aspect of living in Richmond?
Richmond has amazing people! I have met some of my best friends in this city and am always happy to meet more Richmonders. There are also amazing parks and restaurants. Each neighborhood has its own identity, and I love exploring the city to find out more about each place.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love being outside with friends. I enjoy rock climbing and baking, especially pies. I also enjoy advocating for fair housing policy, something I believe to be a core stabilizer for families, and something that I firsthand know, from teaching with Minds In Motion, is important.
The Minds In Motion Team at Richmond Ballet is made up of professional teaching artists and musicians who bring their love, passion and experience of dance to each of their students. They embody the organization’s belief that dance has the unique power to uplift our lives and bring communities together.
