Middle Division

Advancing your movement

The School of Richmond Ballet Middle Division features three levels of ballet instruction for students ages 11 and up. Offerings include a wide variety of classes designed to provide a more in-depth study of classical technique. As students advance to three or more classes per week, training becomes more intensive with pointe work for girls and men’s work for boys. Students are also encouraged to add modern, character dance, and theatre dance classes to their program. Middle I begin pointe work for fifteen minutes at the end of their class.

All Middle Division students perform in the Richmond Ballet Studio Theatre in the School of Richmond Ballet Workshop in May. Audition opportunities for the SRB Ensemble II and Richmond Ballet company productions such as The Nutcracker also enhance the ballet training in this division.

Note: Advancement through the Middle Division is based on a student’s level of skill and accomplishment, not his or her age. New students with previous training must be placed by the School of Richmond Ballet faculty prior to the start of the fall session. Students already enrolled in the School of Richmond Ballet are placed according to ability.
