Josiah Lax was born in Santa Monica, CA. He received his early dance training from the Kirov Academy of Ballet and the HARID Conservatory. Josiah then went on to graduate cum laude from Butler University, receiving a degree in Dance Pedagogy. Upon graduating, Josiah accepted a position with the Sarasota Ballet’s Studio Company before joining Richmond Ballet’s Studio Company and being promoted to a Company Apprentice the following year. At the conclusion of the 2024/2025 season, Josiah was promoted to Company Artist. Some of Josiah’s favorite onstage memories include dancing in George Balanchine’s Serenade and Western Symphony, Ben Stevenson’s Dracula and Cinderella, Val Caniparoli’s What’s Going On, Lambarena, and Goat Rodeo, Ma Cong’s Calling, Pentaptych, French Twist, and Giselle, and Stoner Winslett’s The Nutcracker. Josiah is excited for his fourth season with Richmond Ballet.
